When Mayra Mendoza was thirteen, she immigrated to the United States from Mexico with her older sister. Due to financial barriers, Mayra was only able to receive formal schooling until the fourth grade. Despite this obstacle, Mayra and her family are the owners of an increasingly successful Mexican restaurant named Taqueria La Cazuela, located in East Palo Alto. Mayra pours her heart into every dish she cooks for her customers. Other than cooking, Mayra's passions include serving others and spending time with her four children and extended family.
